32 Seventh Graders from Grace Christian Middle School in Columbus, Ohio arrived to serve in the Pilsen Community of Chicago earlier today!
My co-worker Emily and I (Hanna) met them at the Bean in Millenium Park.
We then split the group in three parts. Crew A (who named themselves the Kahei Unicorns!) served at New Life Pilsen’s after school program, “Safe Haven”. Emily and Crew B did the same at Maranatha Church. Pastor Robert and I took Crews C and D out to the streets to meet homeless people and offer them a sack lunch.
Packing the sack lunches turned out to be quite a production!!
We also wrote letters for the people we’d meet, asking the Lord to give us Scriptures
and words of encouragement that would help introduce them to Jesus.
After we returned, we had a fantastic spaghetti super, and then cleaned up quickly before church. The Wednesday night service at New Life Pilsen offered us a chance to meet the church members and swap stories about ministry in Chicago.
Please pray for us tomorrow as we work at a home for seniors and do a city cleanup project in the morning. In the afternoon, we’ll help with after school programs and homeless outreach.
