On Sunday, December 31st, I met up with our January 2007 World Race team at Harlingen Airport in Texas. Over the next few days, we finished their team and logistical training at AIM’s base in Matamoros, Mexico. Yesterday, they started their RACE.
First, we took everyone to the US/Mexico border to obtain their interior Mexico visas.
There are two squads (A and B), each comprised of 3-4 smaller teams. Teams on the same squad race against each other to reach each new ministry location. Currently, they are racing to their first destination: Palenque, Mexico. Over the next 11 months, they will minister in Central and South America, Africa and Asia before returning to the US in November.
At the border, squads reboarded AIM’s buses after officials processed their paperwork, and the buses headed out to drop the teams at the starting line. HOWEVER, the squads were a little surprised when they discovered a surprise twist.
Upon reaching the highway, one squad’s bus turned right and the other turned left.
Unknown to them, we had planned TWO starting lines! Squad A began in Matamoros, but Squad B started in Reynosa. I accompanied the group to Reynosa and was blessed to send them on their way.
They’re in for an incredible year!
Check out this video that our Media team put together about the team’s arrival in Mexico and departure at the beginning of the race:
